Our Music
The music of the Denville String Band never fails to excite and thrill parade and concert crowds alike. The Band has books of arrangements, one book for each instrument, containing over 200 songs. The arrangements are all in the Mummers string band style and have been obtained from several arrangers in the Philadephia milieu.The songs come from several musical eras ranging from Tin Pan Alley through the 1950s and 60s. Almost all are classics: incredibily popular in their time and remain well-known today. Audiences recognize them, even those that are over 100 years old, and sing along or tap their feet.
The Band's music has several key charactoristics:
- All our music is up-tempo, happy music. There are no slow songs or sad songs in the Band's repertoire.
- The harmonies are in the traditional mummer string band style with each instrument having a different part. The result is usually very pleasing.
- Almost all songs are in "march time" (4/4) or "cut time" (2/2) which allows them to be played while marching.
